On that date, Major Kough led a flight on a strike of a strategic railroad bridge in North Vietnam. Diving on the target through severe visibility restrictions and a devastating cover of anti-aircraft and automatic weapons fire, Major Kough placed his ordnance directly on the target resulting in its complete destruction. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Kough reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
