Margaret Brewer entered military service after graduating from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1952. In 1973 she was selected as the SEVENTH Director of Women Marines. When she was appointed Brigadier General on May 11, 1978, she became the first female general officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a Brigadier General the following year.
