(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Colonel Thomas W. Sawyer, United States Air Force, was awarded a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving as an F-100 Pilot and Flight Commander of the 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa and Phu Cat Air Bases, Republic of Vietnam, in action against the enemy over Southeast Asia in 1967. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Air Force.
