The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Second Lieutenant (Air Corps) Oscar B. Klein (ASN: 0-753795), United States Army Air Forces, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy at Alexandria, Louisiana, on 22 January 1944. On that date, a B-17 aircraft burst into flame upon making a forced landing. Lieutenant Klein, the pilot, having escaped without injury returned to and entered the burning airplane and at the risk of his life rescued a member of the crew who had been hurt and was unable to free himself without assistance.
