John Jumper is a distinguished graduate of Virginia Military Institute’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program, graduating and receiving his commission in 1966. As a fighter pilot, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning three Distinguished Flying Crosses. He served as the 17th Chief of Staff of the Air Force from 2001 to 2005, and retired in 2005 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
