(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant Lewis H. Jervis (ASN: 13125295), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism not involving conflict with an enemy. On 22 October 1944, at the risk of his life, Sergeant Jervis rescued an officer from a burning airplane which crashed into the fire station at Sioux City Army Air Field and burst into flames. With complete disregard for his own safety and in the face of imminent danger of exploding gasoline tanks and ammunition, Sergeant Jervis entered the burning wreckage, search through the entire aircraft, and rescued the officer.
