During World War II, Otto Jenkins became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 8.5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. He was killed in a non-combat air crash of his P-51 on March 24, 1945.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant (Air Corps) Otto DeVillbiss Jenkins (ASN: 0-1998554/T-124313), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a P-51 Mustang Fighter Airplane of the 362d Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, EIGHTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Jenkins, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
