    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Corporal Donald Jauhlainen (ASN: 16012671), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while as a member of the Air Crew of a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber in the 23d Bombardment Squadron, 5th Bombardment Group (Heavy), THIRTEENTH Air Force, in action on a flight over Buna Mission, New Guinea, during World War II. The bombers had been ordered to go in at 3,000 feet, drop their bombs, and return individually. His plane was trying to shake eight Zeroes from its tail when an SOS came through from another American bomber which was battling its way through a hornet’s nest of sixteen Zeros, and he rallied to its defense. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Jauhlainen, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
