Andrew Iosue was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program upon graduation from the University of Massachusetts in 1951, and entered active duty as a Medical Service Officer. He subsequently received pilot training and earned his wings in 1954. He flew more than 200 combat missions in the Vietnam War; and in January 1973, flew in support of the release of American prisoners of war, flying the first U.S. Air Force aircraft to land at Gia Lam Airport in Hanoi, in 19 years. He retired in 1986 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
