Mark Bircher graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Class of 1976. From 1985 to 1988 he was a member of the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron “Blue Angels” flying the A-4 Skyhawk and F/A-18 Hornet. He retired as a U.S. Marine Corps Brigadier General.
