The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Robert Michael Greene (AFSN: 0-29087A), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Forward Air Controller operating over North Vietnam on 29 January 1968. On that date, while operating under low ceilings in a heavily defended area of North Vietnam, Major Greene located several camouflaged rail cars and a large concentration of watercraft loading supplies. Ignoring heavy anti-aircraft artillery fire, Major Greene repeatedly marked targets for the strike aircraft, thereby neutralizing the hostile re-supply efforts in this strategic area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Greene reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major Robert Michael Greene (AFSN: 0-29087A), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Pilot near Tam Ky, Republic of Vietnam on 1 October 1967. On that date, Major Greene was the leader of a flight of three F-100’s diverted from their pre-briefed target in response to a request for immediate close air support by elements of the 101st Airborne Division. The friendly troops were pinned down in a valley by intense hostile automatic weapons fire, including .50 caliber machine guns, by an unknown number of Viet Cong on the side of a nearby hill. In mountainous terrain beneath a 1,500 foot ragged overcast ceiling, Major Greene, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, accomplished repeated accurate low altitude ordnance deliveries through heavy hostile automatic weapons fire. His outstanding courage, aggressive determination, and unerring accuracy were directly responsible for the successful defense of the friendly position and saved many American lives. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Greene reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Robert Michael Greene (AFSN: 0-29087A), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as an F-100 Forward Air Controller of the 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Phu Cat Air Base, Vietnam, in action over North Vietnam on 27 December 1967. On that date, Major Greene conducted attacks over hostile anti-aircraft sites, diving his aircraft through extremely intense barrages of flak, making accurate marking rounds for attacking fighters. After placing the marking rounds, he continued to use his own aircraft as a decoy to draw flak from the less maneuverable, ordnance-laden aircraft. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Greene has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
