The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Charles W. McKay, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 8 May 1864, while serving with Company C, 154th New York Infantry, in action at Dug Gap, Georgia. Sergeant McKay voluntarily risked his life in rescuing under the fire of the enemy a wounded comrade who was lying between the lines.
