George Goddard was born in England and came to the United states in 1904. He received his citizenship in 1918, having enlisted in the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps the year before. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1949 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General but was recalled to duty from 1951 to 1953.
