The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major William Arnold Fredlund (AFSN: FR-25079), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Thunderchief pilot near Bac Giang, North Vietnam, on 1 July 1967. Numerous aircraft have been lost to the extremely intense, accurate anti-aircraft artillery protecting this vital railroad bridge. On this date, Major Fredlund disregarded the intense 85 millimeter flak bursting around him, delivered his ordnance with devastating accuracy and destroyed the center span of this important bridge. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Fredlund reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
