The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting Air Force Distinguished Service Medal (Army Design) (Posthumously) to Brigadier General John Affleck Dunning (AFSN: 1855A), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Deputy Director for War Plans, Directorate of Plans, Deputy Chief of Staff/Plans and Programs, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., from 1958 to 1962. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Dunning and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
