The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Charles S. Fall, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 May 1864, while serving with Company E, 26th Michigan Infantry, in action at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia. Sergeant Fall was one of the first to mount the Confederate works, where he bayoneted two of the enemy and captured a Confederate flag, but threw it away to continue the pursuit of the enemy.
