The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Achievement Medal (Third Oak Leaf Cluster, with Valor) to Technical Sergeant Antonio O. Davis, United States Air Force. Technical Sergeant Davis distinguished himself by an act of courage as HC-130P Loadmaster, 79th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, 449th Expeditionary Group, Camp Lemonier, Djbouti. On 28 November 2006, while deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM-HORN OF AFRICA, he engaged in ground operations against an opposing armed force as a peacetime governmental detainee at El Fashir, Sudan. While conducting an air-land mission, Sergeant Davis and his crew were forcibly detained by armed members of the Sudanese military. In the face of a numerically superior force, Sergeant Davis refused to surrender. He secured high-value equipment, and inspected and issued weapons. Sergeant Davis boldly positioned himself in harm’s way, denying an overwhelming opposing force of over 150 the ability to seize the aircraft. Sergeant Davis’ actions ensured all 17 American detainees returned with honor, and all equipment, classified, and weapons were recovered. By his prompt action and humanitarian regard for his fellow Airmen, Sergeant Davis reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
