The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Harry M. Darmstandler, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Darmstandler distinguished himself as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff for B-1 Matters from 1 July 1974 to 31 August 1975. In this import ant assignment, the dynamic leadership and dedicated efforts of General Darmstandler were instrumental in securing approval for the continued development of the Air Force’s highest priority strategic weapon system.
