The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Second Lieutenant (Air Corps) John E. Danner (ASN: 0-1169474), United States Army Air Forces, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy during the burning of Ringling Brothers Circus at Hartford, Connecticut, on 6 July 1944. With utter disregard for his own safety Lieutenant Danner risked his life in the rescue of 15 or 20 adults and children from the falling and burning circus tent.
