The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain Clifton Emmet Cushman (AFSN: FR-77354), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, over North Vietnam on 25 September 1966. On that date, Captain Cushman was a member of a flight of F-105’s assigned the task of suppressing the flak in and near a vital North Vietnamese target, located on the Northeast Rail Line. While flying through two extremely heavy and accurate anti-aircraft barrages, he reached the target area and commenced his attack. He courageously continued his attack and completely destroyed his target, which contributed immeasurably to the success of his mission. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Cushman has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Forces.
