(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Air Corps) Robert Orin Crall (ASN: 0-687469), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Co-Pilot of a B-24 Liberator Bomber with the EIGHTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the European Theater of Operations, on 22 April 1944. After his Bomber was hit in the port engine and the wing tank burst into flames, and with all on-board communications knocked out during a bombing mission, Second Lieutenant Crall remained with his pilot to keep the bomber airborne long enough for the crew to bail out, before he was killed in the subsequent crash. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Crall, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
