The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force David J. Campanale, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility. Chief Campanale distinguished himself as Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Office of the Chief of Staff, Headquarters United States Air Force, the Pentagon, Washington, District of Columbia, from 26 October 1994 to 31 December 1996. In this important assignment, his unparalleled leadership and genuine concern for the enlisted men and women of the United States Air Force was the catalyst in bringing stability and improved quality of life after a period of great instability. His many initiatives include holding the last uniform board, pushing through the One Plus One Dormitory policy as a Department of Defense Standard, commissioning creation of an interactive Senior Noncommissioned Officers Academy non-resident course, and approval to send master sergeants to the resident academy course. His contributions toward recording enlisted history is a legacy that will truly stand the test of time. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Chief Campanale culminate a distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Chief Master Sergeant David J. Campanale, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Command Senior Enlisted Advisor, Headquarters Military Airlift Command and Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, from 1 March 1992 to 18 October 1994. During this period, Chief Campanale’s unfailing commitment to the enlisted corps and enhancing the capabilities of Air Mobility Command was unprecedented. His intimate involvement in peacekeeping efforts, humanitarian relief operations, and assistance to embattled friendly nations, required him to spend more than half of every year on the road insuring enlisted personnel were informed, their concerns staffed, and their problems worked. Chief Campanale’s dedication to the enlisted force has earned the respect and admiration of the men and women of Air Mobility Command. The superior initiative, outstanding leadership, and personal endeavor displayed by Chief Campanale reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
