(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Colonel (Chaplain) Charles I. Carpenter (AFSN: 668A), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States with Headquarters, U.S. Air Forces, Washington, D.C., from 1942 to 1943. Colonel Carpenter established the chaplaincy work within the Air Force during this formative period. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Carpenter and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
