The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel Alfred Andrew Boyd, Jr. (AFSN: FR-69912), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Director of Electronics and Space Technology and as the Assistant Director of Laboratories, Headquarters Air Force Systems Command, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, from 22 January 1982 to 31 March 1983. In these critical assignments, the exemplary leadership, extraordinary foresight, in-depth technical knowledge, and ceaseless efforts consistently demonstrated by Colonel Boyd resulted in significant contributions to the enhancement of the Air Force technology program of crucial national importance. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Boyd and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
