The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Robert E. Blake, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Aircraft Commander of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action over North Vietnam on 10 June 1972. On that date, Major Blake, despite intense ground fire and hostile aircraft in the area, delivered his ordnance with devastating precision on the Lang Chi hydro-electric power generator complex, demonstrating a high degree of professionalism and aeronautical skill in contributing to the complete destruction of the facility. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Blake reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
