Otto Weyland rose to the rank of Major General in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947, subsequently serving in the Korean War where he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired in 1959 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
