The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel John Henry Wendell, Jr., United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot over Southeast Asia on 5 August 1966. On that date, as an element leader in a flight of four F-105’s, Captain Wendell succeeded in destroying a railroad marshalling area. His efforts contributed materially to the mission of the United States Air Force in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Wendell reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
