The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major James S. Walbridge (AFSN: FR-31861), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Thunderchief Pilot near Ha Dong Army Supply Depot and Army Barracks, North Vietnam, on 12 May 1967. On that date, Major Walbridge was a flight member of a strike against this vital re-supply and depot area. Major Walbridge, without regard to his own personal safety, ingressed to the target and delivered his ordnance under extremely heavy surface-to-air missile, anti-aircraft, and MiG 21 defenses. Post strike Photographic reconnaissance showed the areas assigned to Major Walbridge to be totally destroyed. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Walbridge reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
