The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in addition to a previously awarded Silver Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of an Eighth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Fred August Treyz (AFSN: FR 42263), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a F-105 Thunderchief Pilot over North Vietnam on 24 August 1967. On that date, Colonel Treyz led a force of sixteen F-105 aircraft on a highly successful attack against the Lang Giai Railyard, North Vietnam. Lang Giai is a very sensitive area. Colonel Treyz’s successful attack destroyed numerous rail cars and caused extensive collateral damage to the rail yard. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Treyz reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
