The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Sixth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Fred August Treyz (AFSN: FR 42263), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a F-105 Thunderchief Pilot near Kep, North Vietnam, on 16 June 1967. On that date, Colonel Treyz led a force of eight aircraft against the Kep Railroad Yards. Despite adverse weather conditions and intense anti-aircraft fire, Colonel Treyz attacked the target and delivered his ordnance with pinpoint accuracy. A secondary explosion with a fireball five hundred feet in diameter and several rail cuts resulted from his devastating attack. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Treyz reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
