The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel Fred August Treyz (AFSN: FR 42263), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with the 44th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, at Phu Xuyen Railroad Yard, North Vietnam, on 22 June 1967. On that date, Lieutenant Colonel Treyz as leader of a flight of four F-105D aircraft, executed his assigned mission in an outstanding and professional manner. Disregarding his personal well being in the face of hostile anti-aircraft fire he successfully led his flight to destroy two trains consisting of fifteen and thirty-five cars each. The results of the mission were exemplified by the flight integrity and extremely accurate bombing which was the culmination of his precise planning and execution of the mission. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Lieutenant Colonel Treyz has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
