The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Frederick Gregory Tolman (AFSN: FV-3024689), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Thunderchief Pilot in Southeast Asia on 17 January 1967. On that date, Major Tolman was a member of a flight directed to strike a heavily defended major railroad yard. Despite an attack by hostile interceptors, high threat of surface-to-air missiles and heavy defensive fire in the target area Major Tolman successfully delivered his ordnance on the assigned target in marginal weather conditions heavily damaging it. The interdiction of this vital rail yard severely hampered the flow of supplies and steel from a major industrial center and greatly complicated the hostile re-supply effort. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Tolman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
