The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Ernest M. Moore (ASN: 0-18445/586A), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Commanding General, 7th Fighter Command, from November 1944 to September 1945. General Moore planned and executed very long range fighter operations against the Japanese Empire, establishing and coordinating the various elements of the aircraft warning system, and brought the 7th Fighter Command to an extremely high state of training. These operations were the longest range fighter operations in the history of the Army Air Forces, and were accomplished under the most adverse conditions. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Moore and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces. [This award supersedes the award of the Bronze Star Medal to Brigadier General Moore, for services from 16 March to 17 August 1945, as published in General Orders 70, Headquarters Island Command, Iwo Jima, 18 August 1945.]
