William McKee graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1929. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. From 1962 to 1964 he served as the 7th Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and retired in 1964 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
