James McIntyre was commissioned in the Coast Artillery Section of the Officer Reserve Corps in 1917, and subsequently received a regular Commission in the Coast Artillery. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he retired in 1949 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
