The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Air Corps), [then Brigadier General] James Dennett McIntyre (ASN: 0-7466/A), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility from September 1944 to June 1946 and from September 1946 to August 1947. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel McIntyre and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces. (This award supersedes the awards to Colonel McIntyre of the Army Commendation Ribbon, for service from 1 January to 1 May 1946, and the Army Commendation Ribbon for service in 1944. So much of sec. II, General Orders 43, WD, 1946, pertaining to the award of the Legion of Merit to Colonel McIntyre, for service from September 1944 to April 1946, is rescinded.)
