Monroe Hatch graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Class of 1955. During the Vietnam War he served T-39 Sabreliner courier pilot and as 7th Air Force standardization and evaluation flight examiner at Tan Son Nhut Air Base. From 1987 to 1990 he served as the 23d Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and retired in 1990 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
