Hubert Harmon graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1915. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. From 1954 to 1956 he served as the FIRST Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He retired in 1956 as a U.S. Air Force 3-Star General. On April 1, 2004, in celebration of the U.S. Air Force Academy’s 50th Anniversary, Lieutenant General Hubert R. Harmon was named ”The Father of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
