Eggers, United States Air Force, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as an EC-47 Pilot, in action over Southeast Asia from 1969 to 1970.     The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Thomas E. Eggers, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Eggers distinguished himself as Special Assistant for Mobility Modernization, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, from 19 July 1993 to 30 September 1994. In this important assignment, his consummate leadership and wisdom were instrumental in the implementation of an improvised local area network and data processing program across the command. This network has cut the workload for many units and has markedly increased their ability to use the computer systems. General Eggers was a key player in establishing reasonable, workable, sensible planning and processing for the base closures within the Air Mobility Command. His action improved the quality of life and alleviated unnecessary strain in the work centers across the command. General Eggers’ corporate knowledge of the C-17 program was highly valued when he provided necessary and succinct information to the Commander of the Air Mobility Command and the Secretary of Defense for testimony during congressional hearings. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Eggers culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
