The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Thomas E. Eggers, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Eggers distinguished himself as Assistant for Special Operations Forces Programs in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Research, Development and Acquisition; and as Deputy Director of Operations, and Deputy Director of Plans, Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans and Operations, Headquarters United States Air Force, the Pentagon, Washington, District of Columbia, from 8 July 1986 to 2 September 1989. In these important positions, General Eggers’ outstanding achievements, dynamic leadership and initiative resulted in major contributions to the operational capabilities and readiness of United States air forces worldwide. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Eggers reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
