The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major William Carter Eagle (AFSN: FR-23954), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as an F-105 Pilot of the 34th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, in action in Southeast Asia on 12 March 1967. On that date, Major Eagle led a flight of four F-105 aircraft to attack and completely destroy a strongly defended Thermal Power Plant. With complete disregard for his own safety and calm determination, he successfully led his flight through extremely intense anti-aircraft fire, accomplished the assigned mission, egressed the target area, refueled and again entered hostile territory to attack fleeing targets. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Eagle has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
