    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant General George J. Eade, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Eade distinguished himself as Director of Plans, as Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans and Operations, and as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans and Operations, Headquarters United States Air Force, from 1 February 1970 to 18 April 1973. In these important assignments, the spirited leadership, exemplary foresight, and ceaseless efforts consistently demonstrated by General Eade resulted in significantly improving the aerospace posture of the United States. His profound knowledge of aerospace systems, combined with unusual expertise and ability enabled him to make major contributions to the defense interests of the United States and the Free World.     The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to General George J. Eade, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Eade distinguished himself as Deputy Commander in Chief, Headquarters, United States European Command, from 19 April 1973 to 31 August 1975. In this important assignment, the forceful leadership, consummate wisdom and the outstanding and dedicated efforts of General Eade were significantly displayed in strengthening the operational effectiveness of the European Command and North Atlantic Treaty Organization Forces while being confronted withy many complex military and political problems caused by an increasing Warsaw Pact threat, the Middle East and Cyprus crises, and Congressional pressure to reduce American Forces in Europe. He directed tactical nuclear employment studies which heightened war-fighting capability and deterrence, vigorously supported significant improvements in communications, logistics, command and control systems, and timely indication and warning intelligence to effectively respond to any Warsaw Pact threat. These actions directly furthered the security interests of the United States and her Allies in Europe. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Eade culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country, and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

His initiative and determination have produced new programs and concepts which have resulted in significant improvements in the war plans, a viable deterrent posture, and enhancement of the security of the nation.
