The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General George J. Eade, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Eade distinguished himself as Director of Operations Plans, Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, and Chief, Single Integrated Operational Plan Division, Joint Strategic Target Planning Staff, Joint Chiefs of Staff, from 1 July 1967 to 31 January 1970. The intimate knowledge, dedication and leadership exhibited by General Eade were major factors in insuring the efficiency and credibility of the most important national war plans during a dynamic period of frequently adverse change. His initiative and determination have produced new programs and concepts which have resulted in significant improvements in the war plans, a viable deterrent posture, and enhancement of the security of the nation. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Eade reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
