Bolinder (ASN: 0-747196), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as an Observer with the 422d Night Fighter Squadron, NINTH Air Force, while flying patrol over allied ground forces east of the Rhine River on 16 December 1944. His aircraft established contact with an enemy aircraft. After a twisting, weaving chase in the midnight sky, his fighter pulled within 100 feet, dead astern of the enemy Focke-Wulf 190, it’s 20 millimeter guns hitting the enemy plane and sending it flaming to the ground. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
