The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Colonel James Henry Ahmann (AFSN: 0-25949A), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as an F-4E Aircraft Commander of the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, in Southeast Asia, on 14 February 1970. On that date, Colonel Ahmann led a successful strike against a major petroleum storage area protected by multiple weapons positions and a large contingent of hostile troops. In spite of intense ground fire and restricted visibility he repeatedly attacked the hostile location, destroying the entire stockpile and severely weakened the offensive posture of the opposing forces. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Ahmann reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
