After graduating from high school, Robert Raisch accepted an appointment in the Holloway V-S program in 1947. He attended Duke University under this program where he majored as a mechanical engineer. He was commissioned in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1951, and retired as a United States Marine Corps Brigadier General in 1980.
