Arthur Poillon enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1943 and was assigned to the V-12 Program at Princeton University. He was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1945. He retired as a United States Marine Corps Major General.

Poillon, United States Marine Corps, was awarded Legion of Merit with Combat “V” for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while serving as Chief of Staff and G-3, Task Force XRAY during the recapture of the city of Hue, Republic of Vietnam, in 1968.
