Kenneth McLennan enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in January 1943 after graduating from high school, and was commissioned in 1945. He graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1948 and was promoted to first lieutenant. He retired as a U.S. Marine Corps General in 1981 after serving as the 18th Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps from July 1, 1979 to July 30, 1981.
