Charles Robertson enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1938 and held every enlisted grade from private to first sergeant before he was commissioned in 1942 after graduating first in his class of 339 at Officer’s Candidate School. He retired in 1974 as a United States Marine Corps Brigadier General.
