The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Edward E. Burt (MCSN: 0-20640), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Electronics and Communications Officer the tactical air support section of the FIRST Marine Division in action against the enemy in Korea during the period 4 April to 16 July 1951. Assuming his duties with equipment which was badly depreciated and in a poor state of repair, Captain Burt discharged his responsibilities wisely and with meticulous attention to detail, improving and repairing the equipment, without which the mission of the air support section would have suffered immeasurably. A most capable and inspiring leader, resourceful and persevering in maintaining efficient operation of his section at all times, he was directly instrumental in maintaining constant close tactical air support for ground units, thus aiding materially in the success achieved by the division. Captain Burt’s skilled service and exemplary conduct throughout this period were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
