The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Colonel John H. Brickley (MCSN: 0-8119), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Logistics Officer, First Combat Service Group, Service Command, Fleet Marine Force, prior to and during the liberation of Seoul, Korea, the continuation of the advance to Wonsan and Hungnam, Korea, and subsequent withdrawal from Hungnam, Korea, from 13 August to 15 December 1950. He was assigned the task of loading three hundred vehicles and thirty thousand tons of general cargo left at San Diego, California, by Division units. He discharged his duties wisely and with meticulous attention to detail, accomplishing the loading in the near record time of twelve days. During subsequent operations, he was directly instrumental in developing a smoothly functioning logistical team that maintained a steady flow of supplies at all times.
